We make custom and personalized branding irons like our "S" and other items made of quality steel. Most single letters or symbols can be made in any size up to 12 inches square. Our products are great for use in the home by the fireplace or in the garden as ornamental decorations. The irons can also be used to burn a mark in wooden objects or on a name board for your home.
Each project or item is handcrafted to strict specifications and quality standards. Hand-bent, out of high quality, 1/4 " to 3/8" American Steel and welded by experienced artisans. Your personalized brand will be a work of art. As illustrated below, we test fire all of our brands for a good flat branding impression before we paint or powder coat the final brand. We use 3/4 inch solid red oak boards to test or various deigns. All of our custom designs are delivered to the customer with the test burned board, signed by the artisan who made the iron.
Standard, in-stock designs are shipped without a burn board. However, you can make your own at home if you like. You will probably have to repaint the branding iron, after firing, if you want it to look brand new. Otherwise just dip it in some motor oil while it is still hot and a nice dark patina forms on the heated area. It will take a week or two to "cure" the oil bath. If it seeps after that dry with mineral spirits.
Test firing of the finished branding iron is done until the iron is red hot. Then we burn the impression into a solid 3/4 inch red oak board to make sure the face is flat.
